UHD President Search Committee

Dear UHD Faculty and Staff,

As we thank President Loren Blanchard for his transformative leadership and offer him our best wishes for the next chapter in his life, we need to begin the process of searching for the next leader of our University. I write to you today to offer you the next steps.

  1. I intend to appoint the interim president for the University of Houston-Downtown by the first week of April. Several names have been suggested; however, if any of you wish to recommend a candidate, kindly do so in the next two weeks by writing to my Chief of Staff, Dr. Micah Glenn, at mjglenn@cougarnet.uh.edu.

  2. We have retained Anthem Executive to assist us with the search.

  3. The UHD Presidential Search Committee will be chaired by UH System Board Chairman Honorable Jack B. Moore. As you may be aware, SB 37 requires presidential searches to be chaired by a member of the Board of Regents and supported by at least one additional board member. We are grateful that, along with the chairman, the Honorable Regent Alonzo Cantu has also agreed to serve on the committee.

    The committee will have an operational co-chair to support the chairman. That role will be filled by Vice Chancellor Dona Cornell.

    I will appoint the remaining committee members next month. The committee will be small but will include representation from UHD administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors.

  4. Later this month, I will visit UHD for a listening session with faculty, staff and student leaders to better understand your priorities as we undertake this search.

Dr. Blanchard has positioned UHD for its next phase of growth by emphasizing student success, graduation rates and brand identity, among other priorities. We have also acquired the necessary Texas Department of Transportation land to build a cohesive campus in the future. With so much momentum and promise, it is imperative that we find the right leader with the right experience and a proven skill set to guide UHD into its next chapter.
