Patrick Fertitta Appointed to Board of Regents

Dear UH System Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Patrick Fertitta to the University of Houston System Board of Regents, the 10-member body that oversees our three universities.

Regent Patrick Fertitta is director of Fertitta Entertainment, the parent company of the NBA's Houston Rockets, Landry’s and Golden Nugget Hotels and Casinos. He is also director of the Space City Home Network and an alternate governor for the NBA Board of Governors.

Not only is he an accomplished young professional who was named to The Athletic’s 2024 “NBA 40 Under 40” list, but he is also a leader with a heart for community. Regent Fertitta is a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Houston, director of the Clutch City Foundation and a member of the Chariots for Children Expansion Committee. In addition, he and his family are proud supporters of the Houston Children’s Charity, the Houston Police Foundation and the University of Houston.

A scholar, he earned his business degree from the University of Southern California, but he loves the University of Houston with all his heart.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Regent Fertitta, whose term will run through August 31, 2027, filling one of our vacant positions. With his passion for advancing our region and his business acumen, I am confident that he will further elevate our universities’ academic standings and student success.

Warm regards,

Renu Khator
Chancellor, University of Houston System
