Health Affairs

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) provides legal advice and counsel to all colleges, departments, centers, and institutes of the University of Houston System, which includes among others, the College of Medicine, College of Optometry, School of Nursing, and Speech and Language Center.  The OGC also monitors new laws, rules, and regulations in regard to Health Affairs.  Protecting the privacy of patient, employee, and student information is a vital part of the area of Health Affairs.  Our office handles the review of policies, procedures, and practices to, among other things, maintain the privacy of patients, employees, and students in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and Texas House Bill 300.
