Sexual Misconduct Policy
UHS Faculty, Staff and Students –
One year ago, we implemented a new Sexual Misconduct Policy that details how our University of Houston System universities will follow their legal obligations under Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (“SaVE”) Act, Texas Education Code and other legal mandates. In addition, we launched Salutations, an online sexual misconduct prevention resource for our entire UHS community as well as awareness training specifically for students.
Those two actions reflected our continuing commitment to maintaining an environment free from all forms of discrimination, harassment and other unreasonable interference. Specifically, UHS is committed to maintaining and strengthening an educational, working and living environment where students, faculty, staff and visitors are free from sex discrimination of any kind (sexual misconduct is a form of sex discrimination under our policy) regardless of the sexual orientation or gender identity of the individuals involved. UHS will take appropriate action in an effort to eliminate sexual misconduct from happening, prevent its recurrence and address its effects.
Today, I wish to reaffirm that commitment and make sure every member of our UHS community understands the importance of these principles.
Please also know that anyone can report sexual misconduct and any instances of noncompliance – including fraud – anonymously through MySafeCampus or through a campus resource, such as your police department or Title IX Coordinator.
Let me assure you every report of misconduct and noncompliance we receive will be investigated, and no member of our community is above this process. I expect everyone in our community to take responsibility for bringing any misconduct to light. As I have said before, if you see something, say something.
